Protests against water shortages hit Allandale Road
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
A section of Allandale Road in Klipfontein View has been barricaded off to traffic due to protest action in the area.
Residents blocked the road with burning tyres, rocks, and debris at the intersection of Saraseen and Kynoch Roads, with an additional closure on Nancy Ndamase Street from early on Monday morning.
Residents are protesting against prolonged water outages in the area.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla says officers have been dispatched to assess the situation and assist with diverting vehicles from the affected areas.
"The closures are causing significant traffic disruptions between Midrand and Tembisa/Kempton Park in Ekurhuleni.
"Motorists should expect heavy delays as they navigate the area. We urge drivers to exercise caution and use alternative routes such as Modderfontein Road, Mastiff Road, and Dane Road to avoid the closures."
