Ramaphosa joined the Easter pilgrimage alongside Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba and other officials.

The church, which stopped its large gatherings five years ago when COVID-19 hit South Africa, had started phasing in Moria gatherings with this year's Easter pilgrimage.

Bishop Dr. Barnabas Edward Lekganyane delivered the Easter sermon at the church's headquarters, Moria, outside Polokwane on Sunday afternoon.

It has been reported that the church alone has registered over seven million visitors since last Monday.

The ZCC church, together with the St. Engenas ZCC, which opened its headquarters early last year, used to attract millions of followers before COVID-19.

The St. Engenas ZCC, also known as the "Dove" branch, is led by Bishop Dr. Engenas Joseph Lekganyane, the brother of Barnabas.

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) has described pilgrimages as religious tourism, which increases the number of tourists in the province.

"The Easter period is characterised by short visits by family and friends within the domestic market," said LTA spokesperson Mike Tauatsoala.

"In the case of the Limpopo Province, the added benefit is the flood of pilgrims to various churches in the province.”

“These pilgrims come mainly from quite a number of places, not only in South Africa, but also have a number of other people who are coming from neighboring countries like Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho, and Eswatini."
