Ramaphosa says crises he’s dealt with as president ‘unmatched’

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he has given it his “best shot” at addressing the various crises in the country over the past two years.
Ramaphosa made the comments in Chiawelo on Sunday, where his Soweto ANC branch nominated him for a second term as party president.
The ANC will choose new leadership at its national conference in December.
“Many people have had their own views,” he told reporters following the branch general meeting.
“This has been a huge challenge and I know of no president who has led during the type of pandemic that we’ve had, who was hugely challenged as some people were dying as unemployment was rising, the economy was going down.

“The unrest that had an impact on our economy and the type of floods that we’ve had. So, all these types of challenges have come one after the other. And they have been addressed and of course people can judge whether that has been sufficient or not. But I have been very clear in saying having been elected, I must address all these challenges that face our people.
Ramaphosa, who has come under fire for what many perceive to be slow decision-making, said he has led the ANC and the country to the best of his ability.
“Several people like saying that ‘president, you got into this office at the wrong time because you even had to address state capture’. And yes, that has been my lot as a president, but I have given it my best shot and will continue to do so in service to the people of South Africa.”
The ANC in Gauteng has also endorsed Ramaphosa for president, with Paul Mashatile getting the nod as his deputy.
