Ramaphosa urges ANC not to be party 'of certain people'

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the ANC must avoid becoming an "organisation of a certain group of people".

Ramaphosa made the remarks at a cake-cutting ceremony at Athlone Civic Centre as part of the ANC’s 113th anniversary celebrations.
The president remarked on the absence of coloured people at the ceremony even though they constitute a large part of the population in the area.
Ramaphosa said the ANC is a party that has always advocated for non-racialism.
“Non-racialism means white South Africans, Black South Africans, South Africans who are coloureds, who are Indians must feel that they are at home in the ANC,“ said Ramaphosa
“I looked at all of us and realised that we are at Athlone. Many of the people who live around here are coloured people, but many of them are not here.”
Ramaphosa added that the ANC must reach out to other national groups and make them part of the organisation.
He urged everyone present at the ceremony to go out in numbers and fulfil the task of making other national groups feel at home within the ANC.
