Ramaphosa urges UN to chart post-Covid roadmap

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged the United Nations (UN) to "chart the course for a transformative and inclusive future" after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ramaphosa made the comments during the 75th virtual commemoration of the establishment of the UN.
“The task before us is to chart the course for a transformative and inclusive future in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic; and to do so in a manner that respects the worth and dignity of every human being.”

Although the African continent has not been severely hit by the global pandemic like its European and American counterparts, the Covid-19 has caused deepened inequality and economic turmoil across the continent.
At the end of August, over 1.2 million people across Africa were infected with the virus, with close to 30 000 deaths.
South Africa accounts for the largest proportion of the infections with over 600 000 infections recorded in the country andmore than 15 000 deaths.
