Ramaphosa will continue to lead ANC despite results - Mokonyane

The ANC still has confidence in the leadership of party president Cyril Ramaphosa, according to deputy secretary general Nomvula Mokonyane.
Mokonyane addressed the media at the National Results Operations Centre in Midrand on Friday.
The ANC remains on track to score its worst electoral result ever - with the governing party unlikely to top the 50% mark nationally.
While the party has managed to garner some 4 million votes - this only amounts to some 41% of the share of the national vote with two-thirds of the voting districts completed.
Mokonyane said the leadership will meet on Friday afternoon to discuss a way forward.
"We are meeting with the ANC today, and there will be consultations out of the meeting of the officials and by tomorrow (Saturday), we will be able to brief the people of South Africa.
She added: “We are fine, we are fine. What is of importance is to also note that we are above what was predicted earlier on in terms of the ANC.
“When we went to these elections, the predictions were that the ANC would get 36%.”
Even though the ANC is likely to need a coalition partner to remain in power, Mokonyane remains confident that the party’s results will improve once all the votes have been tallied.
"We don't toy around, we reflect on what is good for the country, as well as respecting the will of the people.
“And that is why we went into this election with the full intention of absolute victory for ANC.
“The decisions of the ANC on the future of relationships stems from the constitution of the ANC," she said.
Asked if Ramaphosa would have to fall on his sword should the party dip below 50%, Mokonyane said there’s no need for any resignations.
"The man did so well. The man addressed over seven community meetings in one day; he did 20 to 30 house visits in a day, and collectively, all of us, we still are confident that he still has to remain the president of the ANC. His term is very fresh.”
