Rand Water has completed pipeline repairs at the Phomolong informal settlement in Mamelodi.

The repairs were done to a burst pipe that flooded eight shacks in the settlement.
"An incident in Mamelodi is not directly directed to the storms, but there was a Rand Water pipe that burst yesterday afternoon that flooded about eight shacks," Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said.

It is suspected that residents of the informal settlement, who encroached on the pipe servitude, might have tampered with the pipeline.
No fatalities were reported during the incident.
However, Rand Water's Makenosi Maroo says intrusion on infrastructure is a serious concern that can result in fatalities.
"Rand Water is pleased to report that the team successfully worked on the repairs of a burst pipeline in Phomolong informal settlement. The repair work and full recharging of the pipeline are estimated to be completed today (Wednesday).
"Rand Water would also like to mention that the encroachment of Rand Water’s infrastructure is a serious concern that can result in fatalities. The water entity is working with the city of Tshwane to resolve encroachment issues.”
