Johannesburg Water said alternative arrangements are in place to supply water to areas that will be affected by Rand Water's maintenance.
The planned maintenance, which started over the weekend, is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Rand Water will perform maintenance at the Eikenhof and Zwartkopjes pump stations and the Daleside Booster Station this week.
Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala warned customers to expect low pressure to no water supply.
"It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately five days or longer after the supply has been fully restored.
"We have made arrangements for alternative water supply at strategic areas like hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations and shopping centres,
"Throughout the maintenance period, residents will receive regular updates on official Johannesburg Water social media platforms, website and ward councillors for affected areas," she added
Work at the Eikenhof pump station will affect Randburg, Roodepoort, Soweto, Joburg Central, Brixton, Hursthill and Crosby.
The Zwartkopjes pump station maintenance will affect Berea, Parktown, Hector Norris, Forrest Hill, Eagles Nest, Alan Manor, Naturena, Crown Gardens, Aeroton and Orlando East, while the Daleside booster station will affect Orange Farm, Lawley and Ennerdale.
