ICYMI: Rand Water to wrap up Tshwane leg of maintenance programme on Friday

The City of Tshwane has warned residents of possible water outages on Friday when Rand Water wraps up its maintenance campaign in the metro.

The water utility embarked on an extensive maintenance programme last month.

The project is focusing on improving Rand Water's infrastructure in Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga.

Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba has asked residents and businesses to reduce their water consumption during the last phase of maintenance.

"The reduction in consumption will allow the city to fill up its reservoirs, which will be affected to maximum capacity and throttle the outflow, especially in the central and eastern areas of Regions 1, 2, 3 and 6 on the days leading up to the maintenance period.

"On 26 July 2024, Rand Water will not be pumping any water at the Mapleton System for three days and 5 hours (77 hours). This will have a ripple effect on 36 of the city’s reservoirs and bulk meters, which are supplied by the Mapleton System.”

Bokaba said the water utility is aware that some parts of the city have been experiencing water supply issues since last week's second phase of the maintenance.

"Rand Water has confirmed that it was aware of the concerns raised by its municipal customers regarding the slow recovery period of its systems during the maintenance period.

"Tshwane customers in Soshanguve and Mabopane in Region 1 who are supplied by Rand Water’s Hartebeeshoek Reservoir have been experiencing water supply challenges since the second phase of the maintenance programme commenced last week Monday.”

The following reservoirs and bulk meters will be affected:
