Recognition from academics ‘humbling’, says Dr Mosimane

South Africa’s most decorated football coach, Pitso Mosimane, was bestowed an honorary doctorate by the University of Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Mosimane, who was honoured for his contribution to football in Africa, has won 19 trophies during coaching spells at SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, and Al-Ahli Saudi.
Speaking at the ceremony on Wednesday, Mosimane said being recognised by academics is a humbling experience.
"We are ordinary people who come from football, and when academics acknowledges and appreciates us, you feel like, is it really happening or what?”
One of the UJ graduates said sharing the stage with Mosimane was a thrill.
"I really appreciate the opportunity to graduate and actually share the stage with the legendary coach. I did not even know he would be here today, so I am really thrilled.
"I got a chance to see him earlier and shared a little moment with him outside, but I am sure he won’t remember that, but anyways, if he sees this, well done on his achievements, and I wish him the best of luck with his future endeavours.”
The seasoned South African coach is set to celebrate his 60th birthday on Friday.
