RTMC: Curfew helping to reduce carnage on roads
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Traffic on the major routes into Gauteng peaked on Sunday as holidaymakers make their way back into the province.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation's (RTMC) spokesperson Simon Zwane says a lot of motorists heeded the call to start their travels early in the morning.
"Because all the roads leading into Gauteng are now every busy, indicating that people left their holiday spots very early in the morning.
"We want to urge pedestrians to get out of the freeways because the roads are very dangerous at these moments.”
Zwane believes the introduction of a stricter curfew has helped curb the number of deaths on the country’s roads.
"We have seen already that the numbers of people arrested for drunken driving are coming down," he says.
"So we expect that the curfew and the lockdown restrictions will reduce the number of fatalities."
