SA wants everything for free: Mantashe
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe believes the ruling party has created a passive society.
Addressing a Black Management Forum (BMF) conference on Wednesday morning, Mantashe said the ANC's focus on service delivery has led to South Africans constantly demanding free services from government.
Mantashe said South Africa is being taken down the wrong road with its demands of 'free this and free that'.
He called on the BMF to help provide solutions to the ANC so the party could be saved from its slippery slope.
"One of the mistakes we have committed over the last 22 years is unintentionally creating a passive society. We used the wrong term, called delivery. Delivery means 'I wait, somebody delivers'. In South Africa the biggest demand is free. Free this. Free that. It's a very dangerous route to take," Mantashe said.
