SAPC & ANC to picket against Janusz Walus parole release
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
The ANC, SACP and its alliance partners will on Wednesday protest against the release on parole of Janusz Walus.
Walus’ release comes 10 days after the Constitutional Court ordered that he be released on parole by no later than Wednesday, 30 November.
SACP spokesperson Alex Mashilo says the parties will assemble at Burgers Park in Pretoria, from where they will march to the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.
“We are demonstrating our disappointment about the judgment that ordered the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services to release Chris Hani’s killer.”
The march also comes amid news that Walus was stabbed by a fellow inmate on Tuesday afternoon.
Mashilo says the stabbint cannot be compared to Hani losing his life.
“We are told via a press release that he was allegedly stabbed by another inmate. We do not want to compare that to what the convicted killer did to Chris Hani when he permanently deprived him of his right to life through the assassination.
“According to the statement he is alive and stable while Chris Hani was buried as a result of Walus assassinating him in cold blood, permanently taking his life, the two are incompatible.”
Walus shot and killed the popular ANC and SACP leader in 1993.
