SA’s Covid-19 recovery rate increases, six months after a pandemic was declared

Friday marks exactly six months since the World Health Organisation declared Covid-19 a worldwide pandemic.
In South Africa, the recovery rate is nearing the 90% mark.
Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, released the daily coronavirus report on Thursday evening that shows the national total of cases standing at 644 438.

There was an increase of 2 007 new cases during the latest 24-hour cycle.
"Regrettably, we report 97 more COVID-19 related deaths: 17 from KwaZulu-Natal, 21 from Gauteng, 7 from Eastern Cape, 4 from Free State, 1 from Limpopo, 26 from Mpumalanga, 15 from North West, 6 from Western Cape,” reads the report.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 15 265.
"Our recoveries now stand at 573 003 which translates to a recovery rate of 88,9%," says Mkhize.
