Scramble expected ahead of 2017 school year
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
Gauteng schools are set for another bumpy start next year.
More than 82 thousand learners still don't have space.
These are learners in grades one and eight.
Despite the huge number of children still not assigned space, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is optimistic about school readiness for 2017.
"As of 5 December 2016, 229 125 have been placed in our schools. This is both those who applied early and those who applied late of which 131 000 are ion Grade 1 and 97 000 are in Grade 8," says Lesufi.
Scrambling for space has become a familiar problem every year, and parents have been urged to not drag their feet in assisting the department with getting applications in.
