Search for bodies underway after car plunges into Vaal Dam
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Police divers are still scrambling for an unknown number of bodies after a car plunged from the Wilgerivier bridge on the R716 near Oranjeville into the Vaal Dam in the Free State.

The car, submerged at least 23 metres, was found on Monday.
It’s understood the car collided with the barrier on the one vehicle roadway before making its way down.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) arrived at the scene to find other emergency services.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon confirmed investigations were underway.
“It is unknown how many persons were in the vehicle when it went through the roadway bridge barrier and submerged in the river.
“A police dive unit was activated and police divers are conducting a dive operation at the site,” Lambinon added.
