Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Four suspects are expected to appear in court in connection with the theft of belongings of the 21 victims of the Enyobeni tavern tragedy in Scenery Park last month.
The suspects, aged between 16 and 21 years, were arrested last Friday.
Police recovered the stolen items which include shoes, weaves, clothes, and a watch from the homes of the suspects.
Spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana says the suspects will appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
"The suspects will be facing charges of theft, possession of suspected stolen property, and defeating the ends of justice."
Inconclusive tests conducted by a Cape Town lab found alcohol and carbon monoxide in the victims' blood but not at deadly levels.
The lab also found methanol in the blood of all the victims, and further testing is underway to determine the levels.
