Thandi Modise's animal cruelty case postponed again
Updated | By Nokukhanya Mntambo
The animal cruelty case against National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise is only set to start in March 2020 following another postponement on Wednesday.
Modise, who was supposed to preside over the mid-term budget speech, was expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Regional Court.
Lobby group AfriForum’s private prosecution unit announced last year that it was going to prosecute Modise on behalf of the National Animal Protection Association privately.
It is alleged that Modise left her farm unattended, causing over 50 pigs and other animals to die due to lack of water and food.
AfriForum's Elias Maangwale says the dates have been provisionally set, but need the go-ahead from Modise's legal representatives.
"We handed over the docket to the accused so today is postponed for 24, 25, 26 March 2020.
"It doesn't affect the trial. They've agreed with the dates."
