The police in Mpumalanga have arrested three suspects who were caught stealing fuel at a depot in eMkhondo.
The suspects were caught in the act on Wednesday evening.
Police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala says the police received a complaint about a business robbery in progress.
"The members immediately attended to the incident, and upon arrival at the scene, they discovered that suspects were busy draining diesel from a depot tanker into a truck.
“The investigation team is connecting the dots to determine the owner of the truck," says Mohlala.
He says four employees at the depot were tied up with shoelaces and locked in the guard room.
Two suspects were arrested on the sport, while three managed to flee.
"The men and women in blue did not budge but continued to pursue the suspects, and they succeeded when they arrested the third suspect, who was cornered whilst driving a VW Polo with Lesotho registration number plates,” says Mohlala.
“The car was spotted towards Ermelo direction, followed and then cornered by the members approximately 30 kilometres towards Ermelo.
“It was during this time that a firearm was found in the possession of the suspect," adds Mohlala.
Mohlala says the firearm discovered is licensed but was confiscated for further investigation.
The three suspects are expected to appear in the Mkhondo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing charges of business robbery and possessing suspected stolen properties.
"More charges could possibly be added against the suspects as the investigation continues," Mohlala says.
