Tshwane extends closure of Magalieskruin refuse site
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
Tshwane residents have been warned not to illegally dump waste on the perimeters of the Magalieskruin Garden refuse site.
The city extended the closure of the dumping site to Monday.
The site, which was temporarily closed last month, was due to be reopened on Monday.
Tshwane's MMC for Environment and Agriculture Ziyanda Zwane says residents who are found illegally dumping waste on the site will be slapped with a R5000 fine.
"It should be noted that almost all the garden sites are currently overwhelmed as a result of the illegal strike.
"Residents are therefore requested to use nearby landfill sites during this period to assist the process of clearing the backlog. Residents and clients of garden refuse sites are urged to refrain from dumping waste on the perimeters of the sites as this is regarded as an illegal dumping activity, which contravenes the City of Tshwane Waste Management By-law".
