Union outraged at Netcare retrenchments
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Health and Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa) has lashed out at plans by hospital group Netcare to retrench workers.
The trade union says the company plans to retrench at least 500 workers from its hospital division.
“We feel this is not fair to the members who have bled and given their all to ensure that this hospital group become a powerhouse that we know of today,” says the union’s spokesperson, Kevin Halama.
The reported job cuts aims to reduce Netcare’s current payroll costs.
Hospersa, which is the majority union at the company, has vowed to leave no stone unturned to avert the retrenchments.
“We are still waiting for the CCMA facilitator to be appointed. We have not started with any formal talks with Netcare,” says Halama.
