Unions and SAA to resume wage talks

Mediation between two striking unions and the South African
Airways (SAA) unions are expected to continue Thursday morning.
Members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) are entering their seventh day of the nationwide strike at the national airline.
Unions are demanding an increase of 8% in wages, with the embattled state-owned national carrier is offering 5.9%.
The cash strapped SAA says at this stage it has no money and can only afford to pay 5.9% from April next year.
The unions have been picketing outside SAA head offices in Kempton Park since the strike kicked off.
The unions and SAA management are expected to continue talks under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) at 10 am on Thursday.
"We hope that we will be able to find an acceptable compromise which suits all parties," says Numsa spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola.
"We will update and inform the media if and when we do reach an agreement," adds Hlubi-Majola.
