[WATCH] Chaos in Parliament over Steenhuisen qualifications
The presiding officer in the National Assembly had to call for calm several times following a spat between the EFF and the DA over John Steenhuisen’s qualifications.
“You must go back to school and read,” were some of remarks aimed at the DA’s chief whip by EFF MPs on Tuesday evening.
It emerged at the weekend that Steenhuisen’s highest qualification is a matric certificate.
Steenhuisen defended himself following an outcry by some South Africans over his lack of tertiary qualifications.
“They (the EFF) don’t want ordinary South Africans part of decision-making process in this house.
“Let me be very clear, I don’t have a University degree and I never pretended to have one,” said Steenhuisen.
The heated debate dragged on for several minutes as MPs continued to interrupt.
“I am not ashamed of this,” added Steenhuisen.
