Emer-G-Med paramedics have confirmed that at least one person has been injured in a tanker explosion on the N1 in Johannesburg.
The incident happened between William Nicol and Malibongwe Drive on Friday.
Meanwhile, Johannesburg Emergency Services have confirmed the tank that exploded was carrying diesel.
The driver of the van that was transporting the flammable liquid on a trailer reportedly lost control - causing the tank to roll off before catching fire.
Spokesperson Xolile Khumalo says while the situation was dangerous, there has been minimal damage to the road.
“It’s less than 2000 liters. We are not saying that’s not dangerous but it’s not as huge. Nobody got affected by the flames or the fire.”
Khumalo also confirmed the only person injured in the crash is being treated for moderate injuries and was not affected by the flames
The road remained closed for mop-up operation.
