The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is investigating an incident where officers were caught on video assaulting a civilian.
In the video, the male victim is taken from a yard and subsequently slapped and thrown into the TMPD vehicle.
The metro police continue kicking and assaulting the man while he’s in the vehicle, when it drives off.
The video has been widely spread on social media.
Tshwane Metro Police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba has confirmed that the vehicle and members are both from the Metro police department.
“The Tshwane Metro Police Department is conducting internal investigations regarding the video, however no complaint has been formally lodged in relation to the video.
“We request the person who seems to be assaulted on the video to come forward for obtaining more information that will assist with the investigation,” says Mahamba in the statement.
