Week of power cuts ahead as Eskom releases ‘erratic’ load shedding schedule
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Eskom has released a load shedding schedule containing varying stages of power cuts to be implemented between Sunday and Wednesday.
The embattled power utility says stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 5pm on Sunday to 4pm on Monday.
Stage 5 load shedding will be implemented daily from 16pm to midnight until Wednesday.
During the day stages 2 and 4 will be implemented.
"Since Sunday morning a generating unit each at Arnot, Grootvlei and Majuba power stations were taken offline for repairs, a generating unit at Kriel Power Station was returned to service," says Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
"Three units at Kusile Power Station are offline due to the duct (chimney structure) failure late in October and will remain offline for a few months while repairs to the chimney system take place.
"Changes in the stages of load shedding will be more erratic due to the absence of the buffer that is normally provided by the diesel generation capacity between generating unit breakdowns."
