Wet Cape Town weather set to disrupt pomp and ceremony at Opening of Parliament
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The wet weather in Cape Town will impact the military pageantry that usually accompanies the Opening of Parliament.
The army planned to demonstrate its capabilities through a military band performance and a display highlighting the armed forces' skills and traditions.
However, President Cyril Ramaphosa will still receive the ceremonial 21-gun salute and the 28-vehicle motorcade escort.
The South African National Defence Force's Kealeboga Manong confirmed the change of plans to Jacaranda FM News on Thursday, ahead of Ramaphosa's address.
"It will commence with the street lining, where they will form up on the sides of the street and await for the president, who will then drive through the street lining.”
Ramaphosa will, for the first time, be speaking on behalf of the new government of national unity.
