Members of the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects involved in a rhino poaching incident in Limpopo.
The carcass of the white rhino was found in Tshilwavhusiku in the Vhembe district over the weekend with both horns missing and bullet wounds in its head and body.
The white rhino was reportedly missing by an employee at a Makhado game farm on Friday and Saturday after it could not be spotted during feeding time.
"The Acting Police in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala, reiterated that police will leave no stone unturned in pursuit of those responsible for this senseless killing," says police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba.
"He concluded by pointing out that rhino poaching is a serious crime that threatens our precious wildlife and that we need the help of the community to bring these perpetrators to book."
Last week, a South African National Parks (SANParks) wilderness trail guide was arrested for possessing an illegal hunting rifle inside the Kruger National Park.
He was arrested during an operation led by the SANParks Environmental Investigative Unit and the South African Police Service’s Tactical Response Team.
