'You can save your life and others' - ANC pleads with South Africans to be responsible amid Covid-19 surge

The African National Congress (ANC) has joined the pleas for South Africans to follow the Covid-19 protocols amid concern over a rising infection rate.

Health experts are warning of an approaching second wave of infections, with the Eastern Cape and Western Cape already experiencing a coronavirus surge.
This week saw the country record more than 3 0000 daily infections on consecutive days for the first time in months.
With the festive season fast approaching, experts warn that the country may be hit with a surge of new infections in the new year.

"We are reaching another wave of the coronavirus and in some provinces, it is moving fast. We urge you to wear your mask, maintain a social distance, wash your hands, stay away from crowded places, don't go to events, shebeens, bars, parties, and places that could cause you harm because you may come in contact with someone who is infected and you may infect others," the ANC deputy general-secretary Jessie Duarte said on Tuesday.
"It is time to keep yourself safe so that you can keep other people safe. There is nothing that will save your life better than you can. Save your life so that you can save the lives of others.”
