Zuma to address Freedom Day gathering
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
President Jacob Zuma will on Wednesday address the main Freedom Day celebrations at Giyani Stadium in Limpopo.
The 27th of April marks the dawn of democracy in South Africa.
South Africans made their mark in the country's first democratic election on this day in 1994.
The elections marked the first all-race national polls where everyone of voting age was allowed to vote.
Final preparations are underway at the Giyani Stadium, with thousands expected to be bussed in from across the province.
The programme is scheduled to start at 09:00 with the president set to
speak at noon.
Meanwhile, the 22nd anniversary of South Africa's first democratic election will also be commemorated by "Zuma Must Go" protests.
Protests will take place in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban according to the organisers People's Assembly.
The group is made of about 75 organisations and individuals who have galvanized around the call for Zuma to step down following the Constitutional Court's Nkandla ruling.
