Julius Malema
Updated | By Sune du Toit
Julius Malema was born on March 3, 1981 in Seshego, Limpopo, and was involved in politics from a young age.
He joined the ANC's Young Pioneers group, was elected chairman of the Youth League branch in Seshego, and later the region. He was also the chair of the Congress of SA Students (Cosas) in Limpopo before being elected national president.
In 2008 Malema was elected as the leader of the ANC Youth League - a position he held for four years until he was expelled from the ANC in 2012.
The following year the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) was formed, with Malema at the helm, and in 2014 the party won 25 seats in the National Assembly during the elections.
Julius Malema was sworn in as a Member of Parliament, and continues to cement his position as the Commander-in-Chief of the red berets.
Malema explains he was very young when he became involved in politics. He says it started off just as something to do, an activity, but as he got older he realised the importance of it.
Malema says nothing will change his politics. He will grow old in politics because he believes in it. All he wants is what is good for his people.
Malema, who at this stage was recently married, deals with his family life, having more children, and how he will manage the kids and his political life when the time comes.
Malema explains the life he wants for his children. He says they must have a better life, where everyone is equal and have the same opportunities.
Malema describes his wedding day, in December, as the proudest day of his life. He says he and his new wife complement each other very well.
Malema talks about his grandmother and describes her as a strong woman who still speaks publicly from time to time. He says she is very proud of him and she would have made a very good politician.
Malema explains many difficult things have happened in his life, but losing his mother was the most difficult. He says he still misses her today.
Malema details his hobbies and what he does in his time off. He describes himself as very caring and a political animal, but he does enjoy to DJ in his free time.
