Benni back in the area - McCarthy unveiled as AmaZulu head coach

Benni McCarthy has been unveiled as the new head coach of AmaZulu .
The club made the long-awaited announcement on Monday.
The former Bafana Bafana striker replaces Ayanda Dlamini, who stepped down and was re-assigned to the club’s development structures earlier this month.
It is the 43-year-old’s first foray back into football management since he was sacked Cape Town City in the 2019/2020 season.
He was dismissed by the club in November 2019 after the club only managed two wins in 18 matches.
McCarthy says he is expecting a lot from his new players.
“Good football must be winning football. I want to play winning football, but the way you win sometimes matters as well and, on occasions, I can accept when you don’t have the best of games but you still come up with three points.
“When I come through the door, hard work walks through the door and I think that’s what players need to understand.”
Allan Freese will lead Usuthu in the derby against Golden Arrows on Wednesday with McCarthy watching his new team from the stands.
“It should be unseemly to have a person who prepared the team for the last ten days to not sit in the bench and taste his own product, the food is cooked,” club president Sandile Zungu said.
“We want Allan Freese to showcase himself and how he has prepared the team. The game is only 48-hours away and we get into Durban this evening and Benni will see the players for the first time tomorrow.”
