Ashley Cupido scored his sixth league goal of the campaign after 13 minutes and Katlego Maphathe doubled the lead 14 minutes later.

Cupido was promoted to the starting line-up after coming off the bench two weeks ago and scoring twice to help defeat AmaZulu.

The victories over mid-table opponents Galaxy and AmaZulu have lifted Spurs to 10 points, three less than second-last Richards Bay, with both clubs having 12 fixtures to play.

Only the bottom club are automatically relegated -- the side finishing second last enters play-offs with the teams ending second and third in the second division for one Premiership slot.

"I do not expect the relegation struggle to be finalised anytime soon," said Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp, a 65-year-old German who guided six Premiership clubs before moving to Cape Town.

Orlando Pirates won 1-0 at Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs drew 0-0 with Moroka Swallows ahead of their Soweto derby this Saturday.

Pirates are fourth and Chiefs sixth in a championship where Mamelodi Sundowns, who were playing in the CAF Champions League, hold an 11-point lead over Cape Town City and SuperSport United.
