Chiefs drop points in Polokwane
Amakhosi struck first, shortly after the half-hour mark, capitalising on a hesitant Polokwane defence. Having called for a handball, the home team paid for a lapse in concentration when Eric Mathoho chipped the ball in from close range to put the Soweto giants in front.
Polokwane fought back, however, when Randy Ngube hit the crossbar from outside the area in the 64th minute and Pluleng Tlolane fired the ball past Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune off the rebound to make it 1-1.
Amakhosi remained undefeated, with two draws and a win from their opening matches of the league campaign.
“We should have killed the game off in the first half, with the number of chances we got, it was clear they played more central than narrow,” said Chiefs coach Steve Komphela.
“We just needed to defend, get it out of congested areas, and counter attack. We did that a couple of times but we could not kill the game. That final pass, finesse and finishing wasn’t there.
“We’ll take the point, go home and say we could have done better. On the back of this performance you kind of feel hard done by that you didn’t get three points. But we also don’t want to be so arrogant that we don’t acknowledge the competition we got from our opponent.”
