Countdown to Laureus awards begins

Wednesday marks exactly one month to the 2019 Laureus World Sports Awards, the most prestigious honours event on the international sporting calendar.
The ceremony will take place in Monaco.
The academy’s chairman, legendary All Black rugby player Sean Fitzpatrick, will lead a glittering collection of sport stars, including no fewer than 20 Olympic and Paralympic gold medal winners, five FIFA World Cup winners, plus world champions from the major sports.
The academy members who will be in Monaco include legendary footballer Franz Beckenbauer, South African rugby hero Morné du Plessis, golfer Li Na and former MotoGP world champion Mick Doohan.
Springbok captain Siya Kolisi's historic first Test in charge of South Africa is up for Sporting Moment of the Year.
The Laureus World Sports Awards also showcases the work of Laureus Sport for Good, which uses the power of sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage, showing how sport can change the world.
Laureus supports more than 160 programmes in over 40 countries, working to transform society and improve the lives of young people.
