Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday extended its congratulations and best wishes to Sachin Tendulkar on the occasion of his 200th Test match appearance.

India take on the West Indies at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Wankhede Stadium in what will be Tendulkar’s final game of international cricket.

“Sachin has been one of the best role models the game of cricket could have ever wished for,” commented CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat.

“His ability speaks for itself and together with his exceptional attitude combined with his humility makes him an extraordinary player. This more than matches his amazing career records that he has amassed over more than two decades.

“We would all love our children to play the game in the same spirit that he does. Having been fortunate to have engaged with him on a number of occasions I would argue there is no better modern cricketer in the complete sense than Sachin Tendulkar.

“For South Africans his career will always be very special as he has been ever present right from our first ever ODI at Eden Gardens in 1991 when he scored a half century. And who can forget one of the game’s great moments when we witnessed his one-on-one battle with Dale Steyn at Newlands in 2011. We will miss him.

“I know I can speak on behalf of every cricketer, every administrator and every fan in our country and say: Thank you, Sachin, you have been a most gracious icon and you have given many wonderful gifts to the game of cricket and you will remain a lasting inspiration for generations to come.”

Tendulkar, 40, has scored 15 847 runs in 199 Tests at an average of 53.71, including 51 centuries and 67 fifties.
