The South African Football Association has confirmed the sudden death of former Bafana Bafana defender Siphiwe Mkhonza.
The 45-year-old Kaizer Chiefs legend died on Tuesday following an illness.
At the time of his passing, Mkhonza was a soccer analyst at SABC Sport.
SAFA President Danny Jordaan described Mkhonza as a giant, versatile player.
"After hanging up his boots, he went into broadcasting and cut a niche for himself with his humour, incisive and thorough analysis. This is a sad day for South African football,” said Jordaan.
Mkhonza started his professional football career at Bloemfontein Celtics in 1991 before moving to Ria Stars and Golden Arrows.
Mkhonza made a name for himself at Kaizer Chiefs from 2004–2007, where he made 44 appearances and won his first league title. He later moved to SuperSport United, Maritzburg United, AmaZulu and Black Leopards.
He retired in 2012.
The family is yet to announce details of his memorial and funeral service.
