Former Banyana Banyana striker Portia Modise says she is aiming to offer empowerment and coaching lessons to women through the Portia Modise Foundation.
The foundation was officially launched last Saturday in Dobsonville, Soweto.
Modise says her foundation wants more opportunities for women in football.
"I think the purpose of the foundation of Portia Modise is to help doing better for women in football, from what I have learned in my football career.
"I am going to try with my foundation to reduce things I didn't like and didn't get help about. I am going to try to help women in sports to achieve what they want to achieve, especially while they are still playing.
“Some of them if they want to do coaching courses can come to my foundation and ask for help, and those who want to go to school, and they don't have any resources can come."
The 37-year-old star says she wants current women footballers to be exposed to more opportunities.
"Coming from a bad background and having to face any other challenges in women's football where there is unfair equality. The way we are not getting paid equal and we were not getting the same help that guys get, and these are the experiences I had.
"I felt that if we were treated equally, we would have been fair with our lives and with our careers as women. I feel that towards from what I have learned. I am just going to have a foundation that will advise these girls better so that if they have an opportunity, they must go to school and not depend on football only."
