Four golds, three world records for SA as Paralympic Games end

Team South Africa won seven medals at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

The Paralympic Games ended on Sunday with South Africa’s medal tally at seven.


 


The country’s athletes won four golds, one silver and two bronze medals and achieved three world records.


 


Louzanne Coetzee applied the finishing touches to Team SA’s campaign at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics when she surged to the bronze medal in the women’s 1 500-meter marathon on Sunday.

Team SA’s medalists in Tokyo were Ntando Mahlangu (two golds), Pieter du Preez (gold), Anrune Weyers (gold), Coetzee (silver and bronze) and Sheryl James (bronze).


 


The 28-year-old Coetzee will help draw the curtain on South Africa’s successful participation at the Games when she carries the flag for the squad at the closing ceremony on Sunday evening.
