Golden Arrows end 11-match losing run in South Africa
New coach Steve Komphela saw Golden Arrows end an 11-match losing streak in all South African competitions when they won 1-0 at Polokwane City on Sunday.
The Premiership game was decided by an 85th-minute goal from Nduduzo Sibiya, who hammered a low shot into the far corner from just inside the area.
Since defeating Kaizer Chiefs last October, Durban outfit Arrows have lost nine league matches and one each in the League Cup and FA Cup.
Former national team captain Komphela refused to take the credit for ending the horror run and lifting Arrows four places to eighth after 20 rounds.
"This victory has nothing to do with me. I spent just two days with the boys before the match and you cannot make a difference in such a short period," he said.
Komphela, who has coached 10 Premiership clubs and been temporarily in charge of the national team, joined Arrows after quitting cash-strapped Moroka Swallows.
Cape Town City wasted a chance to rise three places to second after losing 2-0 away to Royal AM in Pietermaritzburg.
"We lacked focus and commitment," said City coach Eric Tinkler as a winless run since the start of the year stretched to five matches.
