Authorities in Mpumalanga on Monday confirmed that a lion has been spotted in the Matsulu area outside Mbombela.
The big cat was last seen in the Ndumbeni section on Saturday.
It is suspected to have escaped from the nearby Kruger National Park.
Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency spokesperson Simphiwe Shungube cautioned the public not to attempt to catch or kill the lion.
"We are advising the community not to confront the lion. As soon as they see it, they must just alert us because we have a team that is well-trained to capture this lion.
"We received a complaint on Saturday, and we had to dispatch a team to search for this lion. Unfortunately, we could not find it. A lion is very dangerous, and it becomes more dangerous when it feels like its life is in danger.
"Our team was there this morning, and there is still no sign of the lion. we think that it has gone back to the nature reserve, but we have already put a cage to capture it.”
