Mahlangu wins second gold medal in Tokyo

Mahlangu hunted down Great Britian’s Richard Whitehead in the men's 200m and beat him to the line to win in 23.59 seconds on Friday.
South African athlete Ntando Mahlangu has won a second gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Mahlangu hunted down Great Britian’s Richard Whitehead in the men's 200m and beat him to the line to win in 23.59 seconds on Friday.
The 19-year-old picked up South Africa’s sixth medal and fourth gold in total.
It was Mahlangu’s second gold after he had won the long jump six nights earlier in a new world record.
He won silver at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Mahlangu exploded onto the athletics scene when he was 14 years old. He hails from Tweefontein in Kwa-Mhlanga, Mpumalanga.
Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa also congratulated the sprinter.
“Ntando Mahlangu’s story is indeed remarkable, despite various challenges this young star has encountered, he is able to go on an international platform and achieve par excellence.
“His success story deserves all our praises. We congratulate him for once more putting our country on the map and for ensuring that our national anthem is constantly played at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.”
Team South Africa has to date wone four more medals by Anrune Weyers (gold), Pieter du Preez (gold), Louzanne Coetzee (silver), and Sheryl James (bronze).
