Maritzburg United part ways with Xulu
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
Maritzburg United has parted company with Siyanda Xulu after the central defender spent three years with the club.
The Team of Choice announced on Tuesday that it won’t be extending Xulu’s contract.
The 28-year-old, who has also played for Mamelodi Sundowns and FC Rostov in Russia, joined United from Kaizer Chiefs in 2017.
Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia says due to the financial implications of the Covid-19 pandemic, the club could not afford to extend the defender’s contract.
“We sat down with Siyanda and explained to him that under the current economic situation and with the cloud of Covid-19 hanging above us, we were not able to make any decisions right now regarding a possible extension.
“We thought it best for the player’s future that we allow him to move on to a club of his choice and we wish him all the best for his future.”
