Lions midfielder Howard Mnisi has been ruled out for the season after suffering a serious knee injury in his team's Super Rugby opener against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein at the weekend.

Emirates Lions midfielder Howard Mnisi's season is over barely before it began.
Minisi left the field early in the first half of his side's narrow 28-25 victory over the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday with what has been diagnosed as a serious knee injury.
The Lions medical team says the 27-year-old centre suffered multiple knee ligament injuries and requires surgery.
Mnisi is expected to be ruled out for up to nine months.
The Lions hist the Waratahs in their second Super Rugby fixture of the season at Ellis Park on Saturday. Kifck-off is at 3.05pm.
