The recently completed National First Division (NFD) season proved to a thoroughly absorbing one, the race for the championship and the play-offs as well as the battle to avoid relegation, going right down to the last two weeks.

Looking back at the season, Baroka FC, the champs closed out the season with 60 points.

A further look back in numbers has thrown up some interesting insights.

60: The number of points Baroka FC needed to win the title, edging out Highlands Park by one point.

54: The most goals conceded – Moroka Swallows conceded a goal on average every 50 minutes.

50: The highest number of goals scored – Baroka FC scored an average of 1.67 goals per game, or a goal every 54 minutes.

27: The best goal difference; Baroka FC claiming this accolade.

20: Swallows’ run of games without a win between September and March.

18: The number of goals scored by the NFD’s leading marksman, Baroka FC striker Thabiso Kutumela

18: The least number of goals conceded: Highlands Park.

17: The most number of wins: Baroka FC and Highlands Park both won 17 matches.

16: Longest unbeaten streak: Highlands Park and Mbombela both went 16 games without losing.

13: The second highest goal-scorer; Witbank Spurs’ Cleopas Dube.

12: The number of matches newly-promoted Mthatha Bucks went winless at the start of the season.

10: The third highest goal-scorers in the division: Siyanda Ngubo of Royal Eagles and Siyabonga Nomvethe of AmaZulu/ Moroka Swallows.

9: The number of points separating the top six teams.

8: The highest number of goals scored in one game, when Mbombela United beat African Warriors 5-3.

7: The number of points separating the bottom six clubs; it turned out to be a very night season for those trying to avoid relegation.

6: The most goals scored by one side in a match, when Baroka thumped African Warriors 6-0.

5: The longest winning streak: Milano United.

4: The longest run of clean sheets: Baroka, Spurs, Milano and Cape Town All Stars.
