In a dominant display, South Africa dismissed Afghanistan for just 56 runs for a commanding nine-wicket victory in the first T20 World Cup semi-final in Trinidad.

This will be South Africa's first senior men's final since the inaugural Champions Trophy in Bangladesh in 1998, when the side led by Hansie Cronje defeated Brian Lara's West Indies team in the title match.

Before Thursday, the Proteas had won just one in 10 World Cup knockout games and had never made a final, whether in the 50-over or T20 format.

Shamsi, who took three wickets for just six runs, says the team will prepare to face today's winner in the semi-final between India and England.

“It’s really a proud moment, and we’re really happy with the achievement. It’s for the whole country and for the players that played before us. But you know it’s just another step closer for us to achieve the goal that we came here to achieve.

“We have one more hurdle to overcome. So we can sit down and see who we will be facing and then do our preparation as we have done for every single team.”
