Serious windfall for SA’s African queens
Updated | By Algoa FM
South Africa’s all-conquering Banyana Banyana football team has received a serious windfall.
The national team received a total of R5.8 million today from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.
This is in additon to the R400-thousand win-bonus each player received after their famous Women's Africa Cup of National final triumph over hosts Morocco on Saturday night.
Thousands of excited fans thronged OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday to welcome the victorious Banyana Banyana team home.
Coach Desiree Ellis told the crowd her charges had always believed they could bring back the glittering gold trophy and winners' medals.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will be hosting Banyana Banyana at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Wednesday.
