Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw by Lamontville Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont on Saturday.
The results means both teams keep their unbeaten record this season.
Abafana Besthende were punished in the 17th minute when defender Mothobi Mvala netted his first goal of the season from a corner.
Arrows equalised in the 22nd minute following good combination play between Sydney Mmodi and Ntsako Makhubela which saw Michael Gumede heading the ball into the back of the net.
Speaking after the game, Arrows coach Mandla Ncikazi lauded his players for snatching a point from the champions.
“I am proud of the team and I thought we deserved what we got, but again these are treble champions, and this is Mamelodi Sundowns.
“I thought our team deserved to win and some decisions could have gone our way. We wanted three points, but we have a point and let’s take the point and build on it going into the next game.”
The point stretches Sundowns’ lead at the top of the table to three points, but was not enough to console coach Rhulani Mokwena.
“We came with the objective to win, of course. We did not get the result that we wanted but under the circumstances we take the point and move on.
“Disappointing that we only got a point because we are a big team and big teams want to play every match with the objective to win.”
