University of Pretoria are the champions of the inaugural Football Varsity Cup 2013. Tuks upstaged Nelson Mandela University 4-1 at their home venue Tuks Stadium, on Monday night.
The visitors looked somewhat overwhelmed by occasion and offered little going forward. It took just 20 minutes for Lawrence Ntshwane to open the scoring with a good header after perfectly floated corner.
Much like the first goal, the visitors failed do deal with another corner and after a goal-mouth scramble Claudio Barreiro poked home inside the box on the stroke of half time.
The home crowed rallied their team on and they duly obliged when Masilela's diving header found the back of the net after indecisive defending again by Nelson Mandela Univeristy on the 71st minute.
Bradley Peterson scored the visitor' s consolation with twelve minutes left to put some respectability to the scoreline. Masilela bagged his brace deep into injury time with a low shot after he found himself with only the keeper.
In the end, it was a deserved win for the Pretoria side who took the game by the scruff of the neck from the first whistle.
