Two SA women's cricketers suspended
Cricket South Africa has suspended Shabnim Ismail and Trisha Chetty, two of its nationally contracted women players, for repeat offences that breach its Rules and Code of Conduct (“the Code”).
Ismail and Chetty have been suspended until 31 January 2017 for persistent breaches of Article 1.5.2 of the Code, namely, “unbecoming or detrimental conduct which could bring them, the Board or the game of cricket into disrepute”.
Following disciplinary action, the two players have admitted to contravening the Code and have been suspended from playing for the Momentum Proteas team until 31 January 2017. They will remain available to play provincial cricket during this time.
Commenting on the suspensions, CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said:
“We strive to be a highly professional and world-class outfit, whether on or off the field. Incidents of this nature are always disappointing and cannot be tolerated in a high performing environment.
“We have agreed with Shabnim and Trisha that they will undertake specialized counseling during their period of suspension and together with SACA, we will try to ensure that they successfully re-integrate themselves back into the team environment.”
There will be no further comment on this matter as CSA respects the confidential nature of the matter.
